Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian): What Changed in 2026?

What Is the Middle Corridor?

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) — an alternative Silk Road from China to Europe. The route:

China → Kazakhstan → Caspian Sea → Azerbaijan → Georgia → Turkey → Europe

This route differs sharply from the Northern Corridor (through Russia): no geopolitical risk, no sanctions issues.

What Changed Since 2022?

From February 2022, companies using the Northern Corridor (through Russia) began seeking alternatives on the Middle Corridor.

Result:

  • Volume grew 4× between 2022–2026
  • Baku BSTP port expanded in 2024
  • Georgia's Poti port opened a new container terminal
  • Kazakhstan railways invested $2 billion in upgrades
